donation pick-ups

the salvation army and goodwill website are duds...

i was hoping someone could share their experience and contact information for any local charities that pick up donations of furniture and/or large items.

there is a very heavy stainless steel table waiting for donation, but there is no way i can get it down my three flights of stairs by myself, let alone drive it somewhere.

in other news, i recently donated an old, not-running car to KUT.
they came and got it, and it was ridiculously easy.

ooops. They pick up, but the item has to be outside.

Have you fried craigslist or freecycle?

i have done craigslist and freecycle in the past, in boston, and had a really bad time with crazy people.
so, i figured donating to a charity who had pick-up service would weed out at least a portion of the craziness factor.

good luck on them showing up when they say.. i had a horrible experience trying to donate a bedroom set.. they were supposed to show up between 11 and 1, i called at 2pm they said it would be another hour, never called me to tell me they would be late.. waited that hour, they never showed never called. we wound up playing the it will be another hour game till 6pm when i finally told them nevermind after sitting in an empty apt from 11 to 6 without even so much as a courtesy call from them to let me know they would be late.

Just post an ad for free to craigslist or austin freecycle.

i have had bad experiences with both in the past, and thought the donation to a charity route might be better.
