(Edit) Okay, so clearly, posting something at darn near midnight isn't the best idea for me! I should probably have more accurately called this an Introductory Offer rather than an Initial Study. Der... The "study" involved is my opportunity to practice my new skills and knowledge on real people with a serious commitment to their health and well-being.

No, most "studies" for experimental processes don't ask you to pay. Various systems of hypnotic gastric "surgery" have been around for a few years and have been enjoying quite a bit of success. One UK hypnotist boasts a 95% success rate with her clients, and has recently completed clinical trials, the results of which have not been published yet.

Regardless of the terminology, I'd really like to help any interested parties with their Weight Loss goals - no matter how much weight you'd like to lose. (End Edit)

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I've been a Certified Hypnotist since 2003, and I've recently added a VERY exciting new program to my practice: Virtual Gastric Band. Because this is a new technique for me, I'm planning to conduct an Initial Study with 25 participants.

For those of you who want to lose weight (any amount of weight, for any reason), and get a handle on holiday weight gain BEFORE it happens, I have a couple of questions:

1) Would you be willing to commit to four (4) weekly one-hour hypnosis sessions (these sessions can be conducted face-to-face in the comfort and privacy of your home [I have a mobile hypnosis practice rather than an office] or via Skype) in the month of December?
2) Would you be willing to commit to a single daily 20-minute session (with a provided, pre-recorded audio file in mp3 or CD format) to keep you focused, motivated, and on track?
3) Would you be willing to have your non-identifying information shared in a group study for my future marketing purposes?
4) Would you be willing to pay $100 for this entire package (which is only 20% of what I intend to charge once this initial study is done)? In addition to the pre-recorded session for daily use and the four weekly sessions mentioned above, you will also get a personalized recorded session at the end of the program for continued support AND the opportunity for a personalized "tune-up" session if needed in the following 6 months for only $25 (again, 20% of my usual fee).

If so, please contact me at your earliest convenience to schedule your sessions. I'm only taking twenty (25) people in this initial study, so this is a first-come-first-served opportunity! I can be reached at: tanibk@yahoo.com

Thanks, and happy holidays!

As far as ethics go, doing a preliminary study like this actually requires the potential risks to outweigh the benefits -- I wouldn't ask for a given number, but what amount they believe would be reasonable. In general these sorts of studies are considered experimental (even if they're hypnosis) and participants don't pay to participate.

I was just thinking the same thing.
For that matter, the "only 20% of what I plan to charge" experimental/study rate is as much as the full price I would expect to see on something like this.

To be honest, my per-session rate of $125 is probably on the low side of average when compared with other hypnotists. I've seen programs like the one I'm offering being advertised for $650, $880, $1200, and up, and that's still only a fraction of what the actual surgery would cost.

Please see the edit I made to the original post. I hope it clarifies things somewhat.
