Best Salads in Austin

With or without meat, hot, cold, fruit, veggie—where in Austin can you get the best salads? And what do YOU get?

I’ll go first: I LOVE the Berkeley Salad with chicken at Kerbey Lane.

I’m also quite addicted to the Caesar salad dressing on the Central Market salad bar.

Your turn!

Goat cheese salad, Alamos Village and Ritz (but not Lakeline, for some reason)

Spinach salad all the way (strawberries, shrooms, red pepper, bacon) at La Madeleine's

Szechuan (or however you spell that) chicken chop at Mirabella's

It amuses me how in the US we take a rather simple Sichuan and expand it to something impossible to spell. :)

It feels wrong to say, but I freaking love Olive Garden salads.

The Olive Garden infinite salad is the best thing ever... when I crave salad, its usually the place I go. Its mostly iceberg lettuce, but being infinite you can get your fill on it without overspending.

I second the Spinach-salad-of-awesomeness-and-doom at La Madeleine's.

lakeline alamo is not operated by the same people as the others. hence the menu variations, i'm assuming.

i've always liked the whole foods salad bar. It's huge and awesome

What do you get there?

Well their pecan/feta/cranberry salad that is premixed is good -- but usually just build a salad out of the fixins they have plus a small pile of chicken salad and one of the other daily prepared salads.

I like the grilled asparagus salad and usually whatever couscous they have going on.

I love the pecan/feta/cranberry salad as well. I don't live in Austin proper, so whenever I get the chance I go get a big bowl to go.

A good strategy to have there is to start by almost filling your container completely with lettuce (or spring mix or spinach or whatever you fancy that they have out) and then sprinkle a little of each of whatever other ingredients you want. Since it is priced by weight the lettuce is super light and the basis of a salad anyway. Otherwise it's easy to load up on so much topping that you don't need and end up with a $13 salad. I can usually get a meal sized salad for under $6 this way.

Ooh, seared tuna is one of my favorite foods!

The Nabil's Mid East Feast at Kerbey. Actually, their house salad is delish with the Ginger Soy Dressing.

i love leaf! i usually get a baby spinach salad with artichoke hearts, red onions, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, goat cheese, sunflower seeds, and avocado with the lemon herb vinaigrette, but they have all kinds of great stuff.

I also love Leaf! I get the Strawberry Fields (baby spinach, strawberries, goat cheese, bacon, sunflower seeds, candied pecans with strawberry balsamic dressing) with no onion, and it's usually enough for my husband and I to share... Unless I'm really hungry!

The Sonora Salad at Hyde Park. I would eat an old shoe salad if it had that cilantro lime dressing on it omfg.

The spinach DINNER salad at Buenos Aires is amazing! Only get the lunch salad if you'd rather black olives over diced apples.

The Cobb Salad from Central Market Cafe!!!!

Like I said above, I really like the Strawberry Fields salad at Leaf.

I also really like Bernadette's Favorite Salad at Magnolia Cafe. It's mixed greens, feta, tomato, red onion, chopped egg, and bacon. I have them leave off the onions and get it with lime cilantro vinagrette. Yummy!

When my husband and I make salads at home (or at the Whole Foods Salad Bar), they ususally have mixed baby greens and/or baby spinach, carrots, peas, corn, mushrooms, boiled egg, croutons, hearts of palm and/or olives with Newman's Own Lighten Up Balsamic Vinagrette.

I also like the spinach and various berry salad that's prepacked at Whole Foods, except for the onion. :( Sometimes I can get someone to make me one that doesn't have the onion in it.

Now I really want salad, and I already had lunch!

My favorite favorite salad is the Belaire salad at Chez Zee. Arugula, feta, candied walnuts, jicama, edamame and blueberries (although I always say no the the blueberries) and lemon vinaigrette (which is totally the best part). Disclaimer: I work there. But I honestly order this salad 3-4 times a week.

LOVE the Chinese Hack Salad at 34th Street Cafe. It's quite pricey for a salad so I only get it when I'm splurging but it's amazing. Copy/pasted from their online menu: Chinese Hack Salad - Chicken, Napa cabbage with soy sesame dressing, wontons and sweet chili sauce..... 10.29

anyone else like to sprinkle lots of nutritional yeast over the salad after it's been tossed with balsamic and olive oil? It sticks to the salad and covers it with a sort of crust. Mmmmmmmm, good.
