Arboretum apartments roulette

I am moving back to town after a few years away... Of course rent has increased quite a bit lately so I've been looking for awhile because I'm looking to start my lease the first week of may.

Ok. So I wanna stay in the Arboretum area. I have lived in many apartments over there but wanted to get opinions on three I don't have experience with.

I'm looking at Great Hills, Village Oaks, and High Oaks.

Thoughts? Opinions? Complaints?

I know next to nothing about that area but feel I should warn you, it is a VERY tough time for housing in the city right now. People are selling their homes and ending up homeless afterward, so staying in apartments. There's nothing to buy, total housing famine, it's INSANE. Things are selling and renting at hugely inflated prices because landlords can get it, people are desperate! Juuuuuussst warnin ya. ;)

Yeah, that was all just starting when I left two years ago. It's worse where I am now so I'm pretty prepared.

Thanks for the heads up though.

Ditto to the person above. It's rough.

With that said, we just moved out of the Northland at the Arboretum apartments (used to be called Jefferson at the Arboretum). We lived there for 3 full years and loved it. It's off Jollyville and super convenient to get anywhere. The 982 and 983 get you to downtown and back in a breeze (I used to take them to campus every day for 1.5 years). We had a 2 bed/ 2 bath for 900ish (it would increase a little bit every year). The pool + gym + basketball court were awesome. (Don't count on their gas grill to be functional, though!) It was a great place to live. I have no idea how much they charge now, though.

We lived at Tramor at the Arboretum for three years, moving out about 4 years ago to move into a house. It was an 8 minute quick walk to the bus stop, if you took the back routes. Also, 15 minute walk to Amy's Ice Cream (walking there and back burns off all calories, right?). Overall it was a good experience. The management was generally friendly and when our upstairs neighbor broke her toilet on a Friday night and water was gushing into our apartment, their response was super quick.

My wife and I lived there for 3 years, and just left the complex last month. We had a great experience with the management. In fact, it was our second Tramor rental.

Rent was reasonable, the management was attentive, and the property was well maintained.

A little farther away, but still awesome is the Scofield Park apartments.

I used to work on Great Hills, and it was maybe a ten minute drive to work from Scofield Park.

A friend lived in Village Oaks for two years and had nothing but good things to say. She moved out last year to purchase a house, otherwise she would still be there.

I lived off Taylor Draper Ln in one of the complexes there, several years ago, and liked it well, though rent was jacked up on us twice in one year.
